Reboxetine prescription: Reboxetine is an antidepressant known as a selective noradrenaline re-uptake inhibitor. Reboxetine is indicated for the treatment of depressive illness and for maintaining the clinical improvement in patients initially responding to treatment. This medication is sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information. Reboxetine works by preventing this re-absorption of noradrenaline back into the nerve cells. Therefore, it helps prolong the mood-lightening effect of any released noradrenaline. This helps relieve depression. Take this medicine as directed. It can be taken with or without food.

This belongs to the group of medicines known as antidepressants.
Reboxetine is used to treat depression.

Reboxetine is available in tablet form.

It is also sometimes known as: Edronax. You may notice the use of any of these names on the packaging of your medicine.

Why is this drug prescribed?

Edronax tablets contain the active ingredient reboxetine, which is a type of antidepressant known as a selective noradrenaline re-uptake inhibitor. This type of drug acts on nerve cells in the brain. In the brain there are numerous different chemical compounds called neurotransmitters. These act as chemical messengers between the nerve cells. Noradrenaline is one such neurotransmitter and has various functions that we know of. When noradrenaline is released from nerve cells in the brain it acts to lighten mood. When it is reabsorbed into the nerve cells, it no longer has an effect on mood. It is thought that when depression occurs, there may be a decreased amount of noradrenaline released from nerve cells in the brain. Reboxetine works by preventing noradrenaline from being reabsorbed back into the nerve cells in the brain. This helps prolong the mood lightening effect of any released noradrenaline. In this way, reboxetine helps relieve depression. It may take between two to four weeks for the benefits of this drug to appear, so it is very important that you keep taking it, even if it doesn't seem to make much difference at first. If you feel your depression has got worse, or if you have any distressing thoughts or feelings in these first few weeks, then you should talk to your doctor.
